Record demand for UK caravans

There has been a huge surge in demand for caravans and motorhomes in the UK as more and more people choose to stay home for their holidays. As coronavirus has limited international travel, many people chose to take a holiday in the UK last year, and it looks like they were a hit.

Caravan parks across the country have been taking record enquiries from those wanting a UK staycation, with bookings for next year too. It seems like the appeal of a classic family caravan holiday won over travellers for good, with many choosing to purchase a UK holiday home they can enjoy when they want.

When campsites and caravan parks reopened after lockdown they saw a huge surge in demand, with online caravan advert views on one site increasing by 18 per cent in a week. Caravan sales have increased across the board, with some dealers struggling to find enough stock to meet demand. There has been a particular rise in people buying their first caravan too. Caravan parks in tourist hotspots like Skegness also saw a rise in the number of young families interested. Local attractions, natural beauty spots and surprisingly good weather meant that by late summer bookings continued to rise rather than fall off as usual.

Caravans also provide holidaymakers with their own private space to enjoy, a home away from home, which they can clean to their own standards. This has been another major draw for new caravan owners, who appreciate the ability to go on holiday when they want, on their terms. In one survey, 51% of Britons said they wanted a UK beach holiday after lockdown, showing that travelling abroad for multiple holidays may be falling too. With major disruptions to the travel industry, UK holiday homes provide a secure and convenient way to enjoy some time away from busy day to day life. UK holidays have also seen a boost from more eco-friendly travellers, who are uncomfortable with the environmental impact of regular air travel. The demand for a staycation in 2021 is already exceeding expectations, with UK holiday firms seeing more interest and bookings than ever before.
